Welcome to Downtown Elementary’s Partners In Education! P.I.E. is the parent/teacher/community organization at Downtown Elementary School. We encourage all parents, grandparents, mentors, and members of the Downtown Memphis community to become involved with this incredible school. Embarking on it’s fifth year, Downtown Elementary continues to improve on a model that has challenged the image of Memphis City

Schools and raised the standard for education in our area. There are many ways to be a part of this school’s success, including tutoring, sponsoring and volunteering. P.I.E. seeks to facilitate the connection of those willing to contribute with those areas needing a helping hand.
If you have not already registered your family in P.I.E., please stop by the office and give your $10 membership dues and fill out a volunteer form. This will let us know when and in what ways you can help. Your dues cover your entire family, and go toward programs that benefit all students equally. Some examples of P.I.E. programs include Heart 4 Art, where resident artists work at the school for a semester sharing their talent with the students, and the Field Project, in which the school is preparing the large area behind the school for diverse student activities. If you are unable to pay the dues, don’t let that stop you from becoming involved with P.I.E. Several parents have donated memberships, so please ask if there is assistance remaining, and join today!
P.I.E. is working to collaborate with the teachers more efficiently this year. Whenever you enter the school and sign in with the new name tag maker, be sure to check the My Teacher Needs binder and commit to filling a need in your child’s classroom, whether it is fifteen minutes of your time to read a story or bringing a ream of paper or a shoebox.
We are looking forward to an exciting 2007-2008 school year, and hope to have the support of every parent and family of Downtown Elementary students, who Rise Above the Rest!

SAFETY NOTE:
Please help us with the safety of your child by dropping off all students in the morning before 8:00 at the side field gates on Court and Madison, rather than pulling around to the front of the school. The traffic problems caused in the morning by pulling around on 4th Street are a danger to our kids. They are safer inside that gate than they are standing around in front of the school. If it is after 8:30, please bring your child inside the school to sign him or her in for admission to class.
